Yo! this is my longest post yet! xP
Sam and I went shopping before watching the movie. Gosh my atm card isn’t working! I must withdraw money through my bank book! Haii ==’’ and because of that I owe Sam money! I was lazy to go down and get money so I asked Sam to pay for me first then I’ll pay him back later, but gosh! My atm card couldn’t work! so therefore I owe Sam money. I’ll pay you back Sam! =D
Before watching the movie something great happened! I finally saw Cindy and we had a REALLY REALLY good chat! =D man we haven’t talk to each other since FOREVER! It was SO nice talking to her finally! The first thing she said was ‘I’m taller than you Woo! xP’ Goshh you were wearing heels Cindy! ==’’ Haha =P
2012 WAS AWESOME!
Dannngggg! 29 people! guess who was the missing one =P *quackkkkk Haha but we all had an awesome time. 2012 was great for me, although if you are a critic, then you may find many flaws in the movie. As I'm writing this, it occur to me to be VERY careful not to ruin it for those who have not watch it and those who are reading my blog hahaha =P but the movie was just awesome man. I tell you when good things happen in the movie, many of us (people we know and people we don’t know) had SO much excitement that we can’t contain, we just start clapping! Haha yes the movie had that kind of impact on us =P
Leaders this is especially for you ;)
Read Job 16:1-5
Sometimes, we are too quick to say the things that we feel that’s ‘needed’ to say. I’ve done that once too many times unfortunately, but I’ve learn my lesson by the Grace of God =) this verse is a very good verse to refer too when it comes to handling people. Like I said earlier on my other posts, everything can be said in a positive way, yes pressure is good but not all the time. Love is better than forcefulness, just as God isn’t a person who forces things down your throat, that’s the way we should be too. Everything that we are, lets follow how He does things rather than depending on our own intellect telling us what to do =)
Now as you read Job 16:1-5, from the way Job’s friends tried to console him, we learn a basic principle about giving comfort to others in their suffering: A comforter’s ability to help is not so much his talent for using words as it is his capacity to be sympathetic. Meaning it’s not how much or how well we use our words but how much we ‘feel’ or have compassion for that individual. Honestly lah, who would want to listen to what people have to say when they are feeling down, all they need is to have someone there, and our presence alone is satisfying enough isn’t it? I mean how many of you when you’re going through a hard phase in your life, and when you don’t need to listen to an advice but you’re given a long lecture? Annoying isn’t it? Haha I mean there are times for words and there are times for simply being there for that person =)
Job longed for THAT kind of understanding when his friends began trying to correct him. Job didn’t need people to tell him things and give him painfully long hours of lecture. All he needed was just someone to be there, you can read in the first 4 verses that Job didn’t really need those lectures.
Ok now Dr Paul Brand has beautifully expressed this truth in his book ‘Fearfully and Wonderfully made.’ He writes: ‘When I ask patients and their families, ‘who helped you in your suffering?’ I hear a strange, imprecise answer. The person described rarely has smooth answers and a winsome, effervescent personality.’ I checked out the meaning of ‘effervescent’ and it says to produce bubbles of gas or to come out in bubbles; because the word bubbles was used more than once, I assume ‘effervescent’ simply meant a bubbly character =) like Von or Michelle! =D
Anyways back to what Dr Paul Brand has to say, it is someone quiet, understanding, who listens more than talks, who does not judge or even offer much advice. ‘A sense of patience.’ I still like what Derek said about being there for just that 10% in some one’s life.
Sometimes, in trying so hard to say the right thing, we forget that the LANGUAGE OF FEELINGS SPEAKS MUCH LOUDER THAN OUR WORDS. There are times when the best thing we can do is ‘weep with those who weep’ (Romans 12:15)
Job’s friends were supposed to be comforting him in his grief. Instead they condemned him for causing his own suffering. Sometimes there are truth in what we have to say, but the truth sometimes isn’t a pretty sight, we have to be comforting and loving at all times because that is how God is to us. For example, I have a friend that’s been having this emotional bondage for over 4 years, many times we think all she needs is a good smack in the head but then again, isn’t that how we all are sometimes? Don’t we all need a smack in the head from God once in a while? God knows we need it but He doesn’t do that, because He’s a loving God =) so in the same way, let us follow HIS ways =)
Anyways, Job began calling his friends ‘miserable comforters’ ouch.. little do we know, that’s what we are sometimes (NOT all of you lah! Haha)
Job has several ways to become a better comforter to those in pain.
1. Don't talk just for the sake of talking
2. Don’t sermonize by giving answers that shows you’re a know it all
3. Don’t accuse or criticize
4. Put yourself in other people’s place and
5. Offer help and encouragement not discouragement
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 helping others in distress begins when we share their pain.
Sympathy is 2 hearts tugging at one load.
We're playing a new OLD song =D haha
